As the race for the White House heats up, hats are being tossed into the ring seemingly every week. Here we take a peek at the personal residences and home loans of official 2016 presidential candidates as of today. Details are based on available records and data. We’ll add candidates to this presidential ‘home’ page as they officially declare. 

ROSEANNE BARR
The Big Island, Hawaii

Barr PresidentIn 2007, Roseanne Barr purchased a 2,212-square-foot ranch-style home on a macadamia nut farm on Hawaii’s Big Island. The ocean-view home is known as Hidden Hamakua Farm. It has three bedrooms and three and one-half baths and a 672-square-foot garage with a loft and ocean views. It was built in 2001 and purchased outright via trust with no mortgage for a reported price of $1.78 million. No mortgage records could be found on the property. In 2011, Barr began shooting a reality show called “Roseanne’s Nuts” on the property. It aired on Lifetime Television for 16 episodes.

JOHN ELLIS ‘JEB’ BUSH
Coral Gables, Florida

Bush PresidentThe former governor of Florida and his wife Columba live in the luxury development of Almeria Row in Coral Gables, a suburb of Miami. They purchased their 3,485-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-bath townhouse in August 2011 for $1.3 million. Its assessed value in 2014 was $1.1 million. In July 2013, public records show they refinanced their mortgage to a 30-year conventional loan for $754,000.

DR. BEN CARSON
West Palm Beach, Florida

Carson PresidentDr. Ben and his wife Lacena ‘Cookie’ Carson bought their house on West Palm Beach’s Ibis Golf & Country Club in 2013 for $775,000. The single-family home hasfive bedrooms and four and one-half baths in 6,155 total square feet of living area. The property has golf course and water views, a gourmet kitchen and an indoor theater. A first mortgage was recorded on January 31, 2013 for a $475,000 five-year, conventional loan. 


LINCOLN CHAFEE
Warwick, Rhode Island

Chafee PresidentThe former governor of Rhode Island, who left office in January, served as a U.S. senator for seven years and as mayor of Warwick, R.I., for seven years, owns a home in Warwick (near East Greenwich) with his wife Stephanie. The 3,024-square-foot home is a four-bedroom, two-and-one-half bath home built in 1930. It was assessed in 2014 at $727,600. Records indicate there is no mortgage on the property. They also own a farm called Wee Hoose in Exeter. 

CHRISTOPHER ‘CHRIS’ CHRISTIE
Mendham, New Jersey

Christie PresidentGovernor Christie has been in office since 2010, but he, his wife Mary Pat and their four children don’t live in the official New Jersey governor’s residence. The family lives in their 6,979-square-foot house in Mendham, New Jersey, which they bought in August 1998 for $775,000. Public records show the first mortgage was for $300,000 – a conventional, fixed-rate loan. They have since refinanced five times. The most recent loan was recorded in October 2008 for $400,000 – it is a 30-year adjustable. The property assessed in 2014 for a total value of $1.9 million and a market value of $2 million.

HILLARY CLINTON
Chappaqua, New York

Bill and Hillary Clinton have a five-bedroom, four-bathroom colonial in Westchester County built in 1889. The home has 5,232 square feet of living area, and aerial photos show the Secret Service has ample room to park security vehicles, including their SUVs. Public records indicate the home was purchased in 1999 for $1.7 million with a conventional, adjustable-rate first mortgage of $1.4 million.



Washington, D.C.

Clinton PresidentThe Clintons also have a residence in the District of Columbia, according to public records. The four-bedroom, six and two-half-bath home is two and a half stories with 5,152 square feet of living space and brick exterior. Built in 1951, they bought it in 2001 for $2.85 million, financing $2 million with a 30-year adjustable rate mortgage at 7.25 percent. A Satisfaction of Mortgage filed in 2007 indicates it was paid off.

TED CRUZ
Houston, Texas

Cruz PresidentThe junior senator, his wife Heidi, and their two daughters live in a two-bedroom, two and one-half bath luxury high-rise condominium with stellar views of Houston, including the downtown skyline. The Cruz’s 19th-floor unit has 2,049 feet of living area and was built in 2003. They bought it for $837,500 in September 2008 and financed $670,000 of it with a conventional, 30-year adjustable rate mortgage. In March 2011, public records show they refinanced $417,000 to a 15-year fixed.


DR. MARC FELDMAN
Beachwood, Ohio

Feldman PresidentFeldman is an anesthesiologist who lives in the Cleveland suburb of Beachwood, Ohio. He and his wife Anne own a 3,918-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-and-one-half-bath home. They bought the colonial-style house with an open porch in August 1999 for $559,200. Their first mortgage was a $450,000 conventional. Since purchasing, they have refinanced four times. Their most recent mortgage shows they refinanced $180,300 for 25 years in February 2011.

CARLY FIORINA
Lorton, Virgina

Fiorina PresidentCarly Fiorina and her husband Frank share a home in Northern Virginia that public records indicate was purchased in 2011 for $6.1 million. With 8,509 square feet of living area, the six-bedroom, eight-and-two-half bath house has five fireplaces and sits on five acres with unobstructed views of the Potomac River. The National Journal reports the driveway is so long it’s lined with streetlamps. The deed transfer was in September 2011 with no mortgage information listed in public records. In 2014, total value was assessed at $5.805 million, with a land value of $1.16 million. 

LINDSEY GRAHAM
Seneca, South Carolina

Graham President 1The South Carolina senator has been in office since January 2003 and has two residences: one in D.C. and one in his home state. The latter is a 1,901-square-foot single-family ranch home in Seneca, S.C., built in 1989. He bought it for $164,000 in October 1993. In 2013, it was assessed for $213,230. A new, five-year conventional mortgage was recorded on March 2012 for $51,138. 


Washington, D.C

Graham President 2Graham also has a two-bedroom, two-bathroom 1,254 square-foot brick townhome in Washington, D.C. that was purchased in 1997. Public records show the most recent mortgage is a 30-year conventional recorded June 21, 2012 for $207,000. It was assessed in 2015 at $560,910.


MIKE HUCKABEE
Blue Mountain Beach, Florida

Huckabee PresidentMike and Janet Huckabee’s three-story, custom-built home sits on the ‘sugar sand’ of Blue Mountain Beach. According to public documents filed prior to construction, the new house would feature 8,224 square feet of living space, and 2,969 square feet of porch and deck space. It fronts the Gulf of Mexico on the Florida panhandle. Walton County tax records show Huckabee has a $2.8 million mortgage on the custom-built home after paying off $250,000 for the land purchase. He also has a $375,000 mortgage on his vacation home in North Little Rock’s Shady Valley. 

ZOLTAN ISTVAN
Mill Valley, California

Itsvan PresidentWriter, futurist, explorer and transhumanist philosopher Zoltan Istvan lives in Mill Valley, California, about 14 miles north of San Francisco. His primary residence is a 1,527-square-foot two bedroom, one-bath cottage built in 1907. The home is in its original condition including original redwood interiors, Istvan said. He and his wife bought the home in 2013 for $650,000. They have a $552,500 mortgage from a ‘private individual.’

PIYUSH ‘BOBBY’ JINDAL
Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Jindal PresidentThe Louisiana governor and native of Baton Rouge still lives in his hometown, but he and his wife and three children live in the state Governor’s Mansion, where they have resided since January 2008. The home was built in 1963 and has 12 bedrooms, 18 baths, two kitchens, one kitchenette, two dining rooms, one breakfast room and a receiving room for state affairs, among other features, according to the video home tour information in the source cited above and Wikipedia.


TERRY JONES
Gainesville, Florida

Jones PresidentTerry Jones, pastor of Dove World Outreach Center, owns two homes on the same street in Gainesville, Florida. One is listed under his name and one has him and his wife, Sylvia R. Jones, on the records.

The home in his name only was purchased in 2007 for $187,500 with a $150,000, 30-year conventional mortgage. The 3,348-square-foot home has four bedrooms and two baths and was built in 1981. The property owned by the couple is a two-bedroom, one-bathroom, 1,860-square foot home built in 1979. They paid $95,000 via a 30-year, conventional loan. 

MARTIN O’MALLEY
Baltimore, Maryland

O'Malley PresidentIn preparation for leaving the Maryland governor’s mansion, Martin O’Malley and his wife Katie purchased a four-bedroom, four-bath, 2,726-square-foot Tudor house in Baltimore for their family, which includes four children. They paid $549,000 in 2014, with a 30-year first mortgage of $494,100. The two-story house was built in 1929 and has a stone fireplace, nine-foot ceilings and a cherry-paneled family room. 


GEORGE PATAKI
Garrison, New York

Pataki PresidentThe former governor of New York lives in affluent Putnam County north of Long Island in the lower Hudson River Valley. He and his wife Elizabeth own a 14-bedroom, eight-and-one-half-bathroom house in Garrison, NY, that was built in 1893. They purchased it for $700,000 in 1986. In 2014, it assessed for $923,900 with a market value of $1.88 million. In May 2012, he refinanced $750,000. The first mortgage is a 15-year fixed at a rate of 3.75 percent.

Essex, New York

The Patakis also own a Dairy Farm in Essex, NY, which they bought in 2003. It has a 10-bedroom, five and one-half-bath house built in 1880. In 2014, it was assessed for $1.74 million. Records indicate there is no mortgage on the property.

RAND PAUL
Bowling Green, Kentucky

Paul PresidentThe senator from Kentucky and his wife, Kelley, live in a four-bedroom, three-bath home with 4,206 square feet of living area. The white house with gable roof was built in 1994, sits on a 1.99-acre lot, and is surrounded by lush trees. Its total value was assessed at $525,000 in 2014 with a land value of $257,500. In July 2014, they took a 10-year conventional mortgage out on the property for $172,500. 

DARRYL PERRY
Keene, New Hampshire

Perry is a co-founder of New Hampshire Liberty Party and is managing editor of Free Press Publications. A P.O. Box located in the city of Keene, New Hampshire, is the only available address we could find for him. Perry is funding his campaign with Bitcoin digital currency, according to his website.

RICK PERRY
Austin, Texas

Perry PresidentJames Richard ‘Rick’ Perry and his wife Anita spent the past 15 years living in the Texas Governor’s Mansion. When he left office this past January, the couple moved to a two-bedroom, two-bathroom townhome in Austin while their new home is being built in Round Top, a community about 70 miles from the state capitol in Fayette County.

MARCO RUBIO
West Miami, Florida

Rubio PresidentThe Florida senator, his wife Janette, and their four children live in a four-bedroom, three-bath house in Miami. The single-family home has 2,581 square feet of living area and was built in 2005. They paid $550,000. It has a porch, brick patio and swimming pool. After listing the house in 2013 for $675,000, the Rubios didn’t end up selling. In June 2015, they refinanced to a 30-year mortgage for $604,000. In 2014, the total value of the home was assessed at $430,936.

BERNIE SANDERS
Burlington, Vermont

Sanders President 2The Vermont senator and former mayor of Burlington and his wife, Jane O’Meara, have a four-bedroom, two-and-one-half bath home in Chittenden County. The colonial was built in 1981 and sold to the Sanders in 2009 for $405,000. They own the property outright.

 

Washington, D.C.

Sanders PresidentSanders and his wife also own a townhouse in D.C. The 892-square-foot, one-bedroom, one and one-half bath home with brick exterior was built in 1890. They bought it for $488,999 in 2007. The first mortgage was a 30-year conventional ARM for $391,200 at 5.88 percent. Records indicate there is also a $73,350 second mortgage on the property.

RICHARD ‘RICK’ SANTORUM
Great Falls, Virginia

SantorumThe former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania owns a 4,899-square-foot home in Great Falls, VA, with his wife Karen. It has four bedrooms and four and one half bathrooms and was built in 1977. In February 2010, they took out a 30-year, adjustable-rate mortgage for $999,950 at 4.88 percent. Records show subsequent 30-year ARM mortgages of $1 million at 4.0 percent in July 2010, $1 million at 4.0 percent in July 2011 and $958,500 at 2.88 percent in February 2013.

Verona, Pennsylvania

SantorumPresidentThe Santorums also own a 2,071-square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bath Cape Cod-style home in Verona, Pennsylvania, which they bought in 1997 for $87,800. It assessed for $100,700 in 2015. There is no mortgage information.

DR. JILL STEIN
Lexington, Massachusetts

Stein PresidentThis physician was the nominee for the Green Party in the 2012 presidential election and ran for governor of Massachusetts in 2002 and 2010. She is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Medical School. Stein and her husband Richard Rohrer own a 2,224-square-foot, three-bedroom, three-bath home in Lexington, Mass. They paid $480,000 for it in June 1995. They financed $280,000 with a conventional loan upon purchase and in August that same year, financed another $50,000 via another conventional loan. 

DONALD TRUMP
New York City, New York

Trump President 1Much has been written about The Donald’s homes in New York and Palm Beach, with pictorials on his penthouse in the Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. He and his wife Melania live on the tower’s top three floors, which are lavishly decorated in 24K gold and marble. The home was designed by Angelo Donghia in a style reminiscent of King Louis XIV with painted ceilings, ornate columns, opulent furnishings and crystal chandeliers. Trump took out a $100 million mortgage on the entire tower in 2012.

Palm Beach, Florida

Trump President 2The Mar-A-Lago Club in Palm Beach was initially a 126-room, 110,000-square-foot estate Trump bought for $10 million in 1985. After acquiring the property, he renovated it with 58 bedrooms, 33 bathrooms, a 29-foot-long marble-top dining table, 12 fireplaces and three bomb shelters. He keeps private residential quarters at the club, which he calls his ‘home away from home.’ He transferred the property to Mar-A-Lago Club Inc. in 1995 with a $10 million mortgage.

SCOTT WALKER
Wauwatosa, Wisconsin

Walker PresidentScott Walker has been governor of Wisconsin since January 2011 and he resides in the Executive Residence of Wisconsin, also referred to as the Governor’s Mansion, in the state’s capitol of Madison. However, he and his wife Tonette still own their home in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, which they purchased for $310,000 in March 2007. The four-bedroom, two-and-one-half bath colonial has 2,512 square feet of living space. Public records show the Walker’s mortgages upon purchase show a $248,000 30-year conventional loan for their first and a $31,000 second mortgage taken out at the same time. In July 2007, they took out another $61,000 first with a 30-year loan. A refinance was recorded in March 2012 for $234,080 with a 30-year conventional. It assessed for $359,900 in 2013, with a market value of $338,300.

Madison, Wisconsin

Walker President 2Scott Walker is the 14th governor to reside in the Wisconsin Executive Residence, which was completed in 1928. The classical revival house was originally built for a local industrialist but was purchased by the State of Wisconsin in 1949 for $47,500 (though it assessed for $200,000 at the time). The home, with 16,000 square feet of living space, overlooks Lake Mendota and has seven bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, seven fireplaces and 10 major gardens on its 3.7 acres.










JOHN KASICH
Westerville, Ohio

John Kasich houseOhio Gov. John Kasich and his wife Karen own a home on a golf course at the edge of a heavily wooded area in Westerville, Ohio. He is only the second governor since the mid-1950s to decline to live in the Governor’s Residence in Bexley. According to public records, the Kasiches bought the three-bedroom, two-and-one-half bath house in 1996 for $105,000 and financed $80,000 with a 10-year, fixed-rate loan. In September 2002, another loan was recorded – a 15-year, fixed-rate loan for $100,000. In 2005, the house was quit-claimed to the family’s trust. The home assessed for $758,600 in 2014.



JAMES GILMORE
Alexandria, Virginia

James Gilmore homeFormer Virginia Gov. James Gilmore and his wife Roxane own a two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo in Alexandria, VA. It has 1,251 square feet of living area and was built in 1978. Public records show the Gilmores bought the house in July 2003 for $420,000, not long after he left office. They have a 30-year first mortgage for $322,700 and a 20-year second for $55,250, which was also taken out at time of purchase.
